Wordless Wednesday: Watching the Rain Wednesday, May 30 2007

Watching the rain

Nadia in action Tuesday, May 29 2007

I finally did it!

I’ve been saying I need to take more video of Nadia and post some to my blog, and now I’m actually doing it. Not the greatest quality video and you must ignore my husband’s feet sticking into the frame…but it shows my girl in action. This is typical Nadia: always moving, never still! My girl aint no wilting flower!

(Kimberly, now you can stop giving me a hard time about video taping!)

Okay, people…why isn’t this working? What am I doing wrong? I copied and pasted the HTML from Google video. It worked earlier, and now when I came back it’s just a black screen. Hmmm….Here’s the link if you want to try that.

My Joy Tuesday, May 29 2007

Her joy is my joy…I love to see her so happy!

BSM – Outside the Box Monday, May 28 2007

This past week I have been trying to get a little more creative and break out of my self-imposed photographic box. Afterall, there are no hard and fast rules in photography and it’s all about self expression! I’ve really taken a shine to a few of the resulting images, and I thought I’d share them for this week’s Best Shot(s!) Monday.

Don’t forget to click over to Picture This for the rest of the Best Shot submissions! I always enjoy seeing everyone else’s photos…and I’m always inspired.

Going for a ride Monday, May 28 2007

One of our favorite family activities is to go for a golf cart ride together. (One of the advantages/disadvantages of working for a small company is that all the equipment is stored in your garage!)

It’s been a while since we’ve done it, though.

About a month ago I got Nadia a little purse at a garage sale, and we filled it with all the things that belong in a little girl’s purse: Mommy’s old wallet, a comb, toy cell phone….All she was missing was keys. So her Daddy and I both found some outdated keys on our key rings and made her her very own set of keys.

She loved them. They were her favorite thing, and she’d run around the hose shouting “key!” and trying to unlock everything. But after just a couple days of key-filled fun, the keys disappeared.

Thankfully a one year old for the most part still has a “out of sight-out of mind” mentality, so she didn’t miss them too much. We didn’t either…until Vasily realized he’d accidentally put the key to the golf cart on *her* key ring! We looked high and low for them but could find no sign of them.

Fast forward to today at church. My husband came up to me shaking a key chain, and I, thinking he was asking to leave, told him “not yet, give me a few minutes.” He laughed and said “look at them, Christina.” So I looked…and saw that they were Nadia’s keys – golf cart key and all.

So this afternoon we went for a golf cart ride. It has rained pretty much non-stop for the last 3 days and more rain is in the forecast for the next 3 days, but thankfully the sun peeked out for a few hours this afternoon. The weather was simply gorgeous, and the feel of the wind in our faces was invigorating.

Nadia and her Daddy love the golf cart (I do too!). Nadia laughs and claps and shouts pretty much the entire time, and watching hubby is like seeing him as a little boy again. Every time we pass people, he toots the horn and just smiles all over about his cool toy. People are so friendly, smiling and waving. We drove and drove, further than we’ve ever gone on before on the golf cart…probably 7 or 8 miles total. Nadia was perched on my lap, but after a while she reached over and wanted to steer. So we let her climb onto Daddy’s lap and help drive – which she thought was awesome! It was funny to see people do a double-take at the image of a baby driving a golf cart!

Once we got home, Nadia climbed around on the golf cart and “drove” for another half hour…and yet when we finally brought her in, she still cried. She loves the golf cart!

The Mommy Bag Sunday, May 27 2007

Kimberly dared me show the contents of my purse, and and now I dare you! Are you game?

The Mommy Bag

Click on the picture and it’ll take to you Flickr, where there are notes on every item.

It’s actually my diaper bag, since I don’t carry a purse. :o )

Thanks for helping me get there. :o )

When You’re Nadia Friday, May 25 2007

When You’re Nadia…every brush, whether a tooth brush or a scrub brush, is used to brush the hair.

When You’re Nadia…the funniest game in the world is to offer Mommy a bite of your soggy cracker, and then snatch it back at the last second.

When You’re Nadia…you want to eat half a pound of cheese every day.

When You’re Nadia…TedBear must accompany you everywhere.

When You’re Nadia…you like to say a person’s name over and over and over again, just to prove that you can make them respond every single time.

When You’re Nadia…you must have Robeez shoes on your feet at all times. Preferably even in the bath.

When You’re Nadia…it’s funny when the cat hisses at you.

When You’re Nadia…you are utterly and totally obsessed with babies. Especially babies in strollers or car seats.

When You’re Nadia…you say “hi” to every person you see, and you keep saying it until they acknowledge you.

When You’re Nadia…you ask to talk on the phone, and then you don’t say a single word.

When You’re Nadia…you copy everything Mommy does and try to “help” with everything.

When You’re Nadia…Mommy can’t say anything about “going” until she’s ready to walk out the door, or you will drive her crazy with your eagerness to “go!”

When You’re Nadia…the kitchen trashcan is endlessly compelling.

When You’re Nadia…*everything* you come across must be tasted.

When You’re Nadia…the sound of your laughter fills your Mommy with joy.

Why I Blog Friday, May 25 2007

My buddy Colleen at A Madison Mom left a few tag spots open when she did this meme, and I thought it looked like fun and volunteered to fill one of those slots…and I’m just now getting around to it, nearly a week later!

So here goes…

Why I Blog

1) It’s my daughter’s baby book. Shortly after my baby girl was born, I began keeping a journal recording all the special little moments we shared and the cute things she did. I was faithful about updating it a couple times a week for several months…and then life got busier and I found myself writing less and less often. I remember once I opened the file and the last entry was dated over a month ago. Yikes! That’s when I first considered doing a blog. I thought maybe having a “public forum” would inspire me to be more regular about writing. (and it has…even if it’s not all about Nadia anymore).

2) It’s the in thing to do! It’s actually rather funny that I even have a blog, as for years I’ve said “that seems so silly, why would someone do that?” But then a few friends started blogging and I started reading them and clicking around to other ones….and I thought “hey, this is actually pretty cool!” So I decided I wanted one too. I guess I just follow the crowd. :o )

3) It’s my “me time.” I love being a mother, but life with a toddler girl isn’t always mentally stimulating. I mean, changing diapers and filling water cups and reading “Good Night, Baby” for the 10th time don’t exactly stretch my mind. So I like having the opportunity to write and think creatively. I know my posts aren’t on hard-hitting topics…but still.

4) For the solidarity of finding other like-minded bloggers. I especially love it when I read a post and find myself nodding along in agreement. Sometimes they say exactly what I want to say, just so much better.

5) For the thrill of new comments! Yep, I get excited every time a new comment pops up.

How I Spent My Evening Friday, May 25 2007

I read my latest issue of “Real Simple” today. In the car. While driving.

No, that’s not quite true. I was in the driver’s seat and the car was in D, but to say I was *driving* suggests that the car was in motion. And it wasn’t.

It was sunny all day long until about 10 minutes before I left from work, when the skies turned dark as night and dumped torrential rain–and a little hail–on us. Fun….I just love driving in rain (please note the heavy sarcasm). And I just love bumper-to-bumper traffic for a solid 30 miles (more sarcasm). I was literally at a standstill on the highway for minutes at a time…only to creep forward a mere 10 feet before stopping again. It took me 3 freakin’ hours to get home.

I guess I should just be glad that I had left the magazine in the car, so at least I had something to do other than listen to the static-y radio.

(whew, thanks for letting me vent. I feel so much better now!)
